Made by hand from the finest ingredients, this snack is rolled by artisans and considered Amakusa City’s traditional nanban temakikashi, or a confection brought to Japan by Portuguese, Spanish, and Dutch ships in the 1500s. The fluffy sponge cake is a Portuguese castella and it’s rolled with a white bean paste with a rich melon flavor.
