Muromachi Glass Art
Modern Kiriko Cut Glass: Yuu Blue Cup
Kiriko is a traditional Japanese art of cut glass. This cup reminds us of a frozen wave or an iceberg. The thickly finished glass was cut away by hand, with each cut completely unique and varying in depth and length to create a vibrant piece. This piece was designed and produced by Omoto Kenichiro, who said "I want to try a rough, wild expression with glass." His modern design breaks away from the traditional linear designs to create a stunning and contemporary design. Like all Kiriko glassware, it is as much a work of art as it is a piece of tableware.
