Josh Liptzin from New York

Member since Day 1

It's Member Spotlight time! This month's Member Spotlight is Josh Liptzin from New York. He has been a Member since Bokksu's humble beginnings, participating in our first test run! Falling in love with Japanese snacks back in his college days in California, Josh shares our love for authentic snacks and sharing them with friends. Read on to find out more about him:

1. How do you feel about being selected as our first Bokksu Member Spotlight?

I am thrilled to be selected!

2. What do you find most exciting about Japanese snacks?

I love the variety of flavor and the balance. You can find sweet, salty, savory, and even fishy snacks whereas in the US most readily available snacks are too sweet or salty and have a limited combination of unique flavors.

3. What made you fall in love with Japanese snacks?

When I lived in California I used to love checking out all the Asian supermarkets and would regularly try out different varieties of Japanese snacks and fell in love with them!

4. What was your favorite snack and/or favorite theme in our past boxes?

I loved the tea box because I'm a tea drinker and thought all the snacks paired well with tea. I especially liked the coffee flavored natural yeast bread.

5. On average, how long does your Bokksu last before you finish the whole box?

My Bokksu only last a few days because I usually share it with friends and family who also love the snacks

6. What Japanese snack would you like to see in a future Bokksu?

I am not sure, I am no expert so I'll let the pros who have been doing such a great job handle that one!

7. What is a future theme you would like to see Bokksu do?

A savory/fishy theme would be interesting. I know it probably wouldn't be the most popular, but I like fishy snacks that are hard to find in the US.

8. How would you describe the feeling you get when you’re about to open your Bokksu?

Hunger and excitement, while at the same time pushing my dogs away because they think it's a BarkBox.

9. What are you most excited about this summer?

I'm excited to share a Bokksu and some drinks with my friends on a cool summer evening

10. What is one Japanese food you just can’t get enough of (doesn’t have to be a Bokksu snack)?

Sushi, of course! Then ramen (the real stuff, not the brick of powdery noodles at costco for 25 cents)
